Treatment for back pain


Low back pain can happen to everyone at some point in their life.  The pain may make it hard to stand up or move sometimes.  Pain lasting longer than three months is considered to be chronic pain. 

JC Physical Therapy specializes in back pain.  With one on one patient and therapist time, we provide special treatments specifically catered towards each patient.  We also help you to develop an exercise program to help strengthen  your muscles to get back to your daily activities.  We will guide you through stretches, exercises, and some special techniques to help ease the pain and help you heal. 

The leading cause of activity limitation and work absence is due to back complaints.  We always hear stories of people’s back going out while in the garden or in the gym.  The experience of back pain can be very painful and debilitating.  The heating pads will be on all night with you unable to move.  Most people think to themselves that they will be fine with just rest and that typically will not always be the right answer.  Just by choosing to do physical therapy for your back pain will help in so many ways. 

Not all back pain is the same for everyone.  Some will have low back pain, which is most typical, some might have mid back pain.  Either way, each treatment would be tailored to each patient and their condition. 

Some treatments include:

  • Manual therapy, including visceral manipulation, to improve the mobility of joints and soft tissues

  • Myofascial release

  • Home exercise programs to help you

  • Training for proper lifting, bending, and sitting; for doing chores both at work and in the home; and for proper sleeping positions

  • Ice or heat treatments or electrical stimulation to help relieve pain

    Will I definitely improve with physical therapy?

    You will see dramatic improvements with physical therapy for back pain.  You as a patient will have to keep up with the home exercise program.
